Dear Ira, Zach, Jared and Erin,

Thank you for your generous gift in support of our patients. As you experienced first-hand, the challenges of dealing with a cancer diagnosis and managing all of the things that need to be taken care of when a loved one is sick is difficult in itself. The added financial burden on some less-fortunate patients complicates their ability to navigate day-to-day needs. This program will alleviate some of that burden and provide crucial assistance for medications, transportation and food.

I have had a very long relationship with your family, almost as long as that with my own. Allyn came to me in Little Rock, Arkansas—a very alien environment from a Jewish boy from NYC. She was a vivacious woman, quite comfortable in the deep South. It was always more like she was hosting me than I her. We became friends, more than physician/patient. We went to school, we had meals together, we talked about life. Our relationship has lasted for decades and continues despite her passing. I know that my relationship with you and the extended family will also continue. Her memory continues to motivate me in my care of patients and research into this horrible disease. I know that she would be proud to see that other patients are being helped in her memory.

Thank you for your friendship and support.

Warmly,
David S. Siegel, M.D., Ph.D.
